When Joey told me that he had found my blog by googling my OkCupid username, I realized that I would have to change it. If a guy is going to know about my blog it’s going to be because *I* told him about it, and not because he decided to google my username before a date.
After searching the OkCupid site I learned that the only way to change your username is to become to an A-List member, meaning you pay $9.95 per month. You can cancel after a month and the name change will stay in effect. I thought about just canceling my account and creating a new one with a different username, but there is one A-List feature that convinced me to upgrade: the ability to look at someone’s profile without the person knowing you visited.
I have been wanting to re-visit Manchild‘s profile for a few months. But I couldn’t, because then he would know I had looked at it and he might think I’m interested in starting something back up with him. I’m not. I was just really curious to see how his profile matched up to what I had experienced in real life. So, with that in mind, I decided to fork over the $9.95.
It was a bit enlightening. Manchild was only the second guy I’d talked to on OkCupid, and back then I definitely wasn’t as experienced as weeding through profiles as I am now. There were several red flags that I missed the first time around that CLEARLY indicated that he wasn’t looking for a relationship.
The most obvious was in his “Looking for” section, where he says that he’s looking for “new friends,” “short-term dating,” and “activity partners.” Noticeably absent from that list is “Long-term dating”…doh! It’s too bad that I didn’t reread his profile before I attempted to have the talk.
The second red flag should have been the overall sexual undertone. From his profile:
I’m really good at
Everything ; )
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My favorite girls are the feisty ones.
Nowadays, with my “vast” OkCupid experience, there’s no way I would respond to a message from someone who implies with a winky face on his profile that he’s good at sex. Aside from the fact that it’s a bit creepy, it also shows what he’s all about. But you live and you learn, right?
Anyway, it took a few weeks but I finally got around to changing my username. It’s a good thing this site isn’t called “Notchangingmyusername,” or I’d be a hypocrite! (Lol that was my lame attempt at a joke.)
Good one.
Thanks π
The “stalking” of exes. My personal favorite. At least now you see the details you may have missed previously, which is probably a great ego boost knowing it’s over and done with.
Well it’s hard not to stalk when the internet makes it so easy! lol
There is a whole online education when it comes to meeting people that way. Once you figure it out, it makes the whole process go a lot smoother. Sounds like you’re learning:)
π Yeah – I’m learning the hard way! But oh well.
yeah. I know jerks and that guy sounds like one.
Thanks for the support π Yeah he was definitely a bit of a douche lol. My fault for not realizing it back then.
